If you haven't purchased a Bible yet, you may want to consider The Catholic Study Bible. It's a good version for our study purposes because the language is easy and, best of all, notes at the bottom make it understandable. Reading the Bible without good notes is very difficult. The notes in this version explain difficult concepts and also reference other parts of the Bible that might be relevant.
